What is a Chakra? How to Unlock Their Power

By Lady Saoirse

Unlock the power of your chakras by focusing on the areas of your life they rule. This will balance your spiritual body, which will in turn make your physical body, and all over health better inside and out.

Balancing or aligning the chakras is spoken of by some people as if their lives depend on it. They attend seminars, read books, and sit deep in meditation to achieve this. Other people have never even heard of chakras, and don’t understand why some people attach so much importance to them. If the people who work on their chakras are right, it’s worth learning about them. Join SpiritualBlossom to learn all about chakras. Find out what a chakra is, where they are located, and what they do. Discover how to tap into their power doing simple things in your everyday life.

What’s a Chakra?

Belief in chakras comes from Hinduism and Buddhism and modern New Age Westerners picked up the belief in the 1800’s. It is believed by some people that the physical body is only part of the human body. There is a spiritual or esoteric body as well, and these two bodies combine to form a whole human being. The spiritual body moves along in channels connected by the chakras. Chakras are psychic energy centers of the body, and different religions say there are a different number of them. Many people say there are either between 3 or 12 of them. One scholar believed there were over 88,000 of them! The chakras go from the top of the head down the spine.

They cannot be seen in the same way the physical body can, but can be detected. The way to get in touch with them is through meditation, exercises, or yoga practices. The belief in chakras is very old, and stretches over parts of Asia for countless centuries. So, there is no one defined way to get in touch with the chakras. Some Westerners who practice New Age disciplines believe in the power of chakras. They stick with a system that recognizes seven chakras. Why Are the Chakras Important?

Chakras are considered important because they are spiritual centers in the body. It is believed that our spiritual selves directly affect our physical selves, and a spiritual defect negatively affects our health. Blockages in them can throw off an aspect of your life, and you don’t want that. Some people don’t worry about their chakras and choose to focus on the aspects of their lives the chakras govern instead. Consciously working on our own lives can help to balance areas of our lives without chanting, meditation, or exercises. It all depends on how you want to do it. Looking at the Chakras

Looking at the Chakras

Psychic insight, visualization, or meditation reveals whether there are problems with the chakras, and this is shown by their color. If a chakra’s colors are clear and bright, it means they are healthy and powerful. If the color is dim, spotty, or difficult to see, it means some work needs to be done on that particular area. The chakra colors combine to form a rainbow, and when all of the colors are vivid, it means that you have successfully worked on all the areas of your life.

Beginning at the top of the head with the Crown Chakra, that chakra’s color is Violet. Next, the Third Eye is a royal blue or indigo color. The Throat Chakra is a lighter blue or even an aquamarine color. The Heart Chakra is green like the forest. The Solar Plexus Chakra is a clear yellow. The Sacral Chakra is a happy orange. Finally, the Root Chakra is a passionate red. All these colors combine to form a powerful protective color- black. The 7 Chakras

For the sake of simplicity, seven chakras will be explored. Some say work on the chakras begins at the lowest one, and moving upwards to the top chakra is best. Others say to start at the top. Other people focus on each chakra, using visualization to see 5hem, and don’t necessarily focus on any order of observing them.

Crown Chakra

Starting at the top of the head, the Crown Chakra is said to either be within the pituitary gland, on the crown of the head, or it rests just above the head, not touching the body at all. This chakra is all about thought, consciousness, and wisdom. When it is perfectly balanced, you will be someone whose sense of self is not egotistical, and you will understand that we are all connected in the universe. Individuality is believed to be an illusion you will join with the supreme consciousness of the universe if this chakra is balanced. Having this chakra open or balanced means you attain divine wisdom.

To embrace this chakra’s power, begin with the belief that we are all intimately connected in the world. Every animal, every plant, every drop of water, and every gust of wind is interconnected to you and everything else on the planet. Our green planet is just one heavenly body in our solar system, and our solar system is just a part of the greater universe. An excessive fear of death and dissatisfaction with life in general can indicate a blockage of this chakra.

Third Eye Chakra

Third Eye Chakra

Located between your eyebrows on your forehead, the Third Eye represents intuition. Psychic abilities and gut instincts are ruled by this chakra. When it is perfectly open and balanced, you will become aware of other people’s energies and feelings. It might overwhelm you at first, but with time you will learn to get used to it. Your psychic powers may suddenly reveal themselves, or psychic abilities you never noticed before can surface once this chakra opens.

An old practice to open this chakra is to press gently on it or apply a piece of sacred jewelry or paint over it. Meditations focused on opening the third eye or psychic development classes can help to open this chakra also. Signs this chakra is blocked are that you have no intuition, or it is stifled. Throat Chakra

The Throat Chakra is all about communication, and a lot of body parts are included in where it is located. The head, ears, thyroid gland, throat, neck, and mouth are all where it is. It governs communication. This is especially important because the way we express ourselves to other people decides a lot. It decides how successful we are in our careers, which decides our sense of self-worth. It also determines our wealth and overall sense of wellbeing. Good communication helps forge healthy relationships, which in turn makes us happy and loved. Signs your Throat Chakra is open and balanced are that you openly and honestly communicate and are able to make yourself understood.

Some experts say the number one thing that will block the Throat Chakra is dishonesty. The more you lie, the more you block it. Speaking honestly is one way to open and balance the throat chakra. Being afraid to speak openly closes it too. Practicing what you want to say before you communicate with someone is a good way to help overcome that fear so your Throat Chakra can be open.

Heart Chakra

The Heart Chakra is located in the center of the lower area of the chest. It is all about our relationships. How sympathetic, compassionate, and loving we are is decided by it. It connects our spiritual selves with our physical selves. Our relationships decide a lot in our lives. If we are sick, it is the people who love us who take care of us. If we are lonely, we suffer emotionally, and this makes us stressed and more likely to get sick.

A block in the Heart Chakra is said to be felt by upper back tightness. A blockage to this chakra manifests as a lack of compassion for other people, or it can manifest as a lack of self-love. To open and balance your Heart Chakra, work on being compassionate, even if you struggle with it. Do volunteer work, or just open your heart to people you would not have thought to. Solar Plexus Chakra

The Solar Plexus is a group of nerves behind the navel. It is associated with the pancreas and adrenal glands. These things convert food to nutrition and thus grant strength to our bodies. In a way, the Solar Plexus is responsible for the very fact we are even alive. We are what we eat. Healthy food makes for healthy bodies, and it is said that foods that are the color of this chakra- yellow- help keep this chakra strong. The Solar Plexus also governs our self-esteem, vitality, and sense of ambition.

A blockage of the Solar Plexus can make us overly humble or overly arrogant. Not enough confidence will make us lack the motivation and courage to pursue goals. It can make us feel down on ourselves, and that’s not good. An imbalanced Solar Plexus can also make us conceited and controlling of other people. To balance and open your Solar Plexus, accept yourself, flaws and all, but focus on self-improvement. If you are feeling scared to pursue a goal, try it anyway. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Sacral Chakra

Just below our belly button lies out Sacral Chakra. It is the chakra of sexuality, sensuality, desires, and creativity. This chakra defines a lot of our personal identity. How we seek out what we are passionate about and how we express our sexual identity are all ruled by this. How we create beauty through art, and also how we create our world is a part of this chakra. Healthy emotions and what makes us happy are included in this as well.

Signs your Sacral Chakra is open and balanced is a free flow of your personal creativity and openly enjoying your sexuality. A blockage of this can manifest as kidney issues or worse yet, an inability to express your creative side. Repression of who we truly are can be caused by a blockage of the Sacral Chakra and inability to accept or express your personal sexuality or sensual side can too. Emotional intimacy may also be compromised. To unblock and balance this chakra, throw off the fetters of personal repression and embrace your creative and sensual side. Root Chakra

The Root Chakra lies at the base of our spine. It is responsible for our sense of foundation, security, and safety. It is all about how “rooted” we feel in our own lives, families, and community. Some say that establishing a good foundation in life is crucial to everything, and while some see this chakra as the “final” chakra, others say it is the first, and most important one. Without a balanced and open Root Chakra, some people believe everything in life will be unbalanced.

Signs of a balanced Root Chakra include feeling safe and secure in life as well as being able to balance your emotions and meet your needs. An unbalanced Root Chakra manifests as a sense of insecurity, or even greed. To balance your Root Chakra, share with those who you can help, and focus on being thankful for what you do have while you work to get more of what makes you feel more secure.

How to Activate Your Chakras

We really don’t need to “activate” the chakras to benefit from their powers. We just have to be aware of the things that are going on in our lives, our habits, and our behaviors. Different people disagree on how to do that. Deep meditation focusing on each chakra is one way some people choose to tap into their chakras. Other people read and watch online seminars to learn about chakras. You can always follow our above suggestions to connect with your chakras.

Another way to learn about your chakras is to seek out a teacher. Some people say it is unwise to learn deep spiritual topics alone. Some people choose to study the chakras in person with an expert. Not everybody knows where to find someone like that, however. Sadhguru is an internationally recognized teacher who helps people in many areas of spirituality. On his website, he lists different centers of learning that are all over the world. If any of these are local, you can meet with them in person to learn about chakras and much more. You might not believe in chakras. Not everybody does. You might not even believe in a spiritual body. Even if you do, you might not believe your spiritual body affects your health. No matter what you believe, we can all agree that each of the things the seven chakras are said to rule are important. You can focus on cultivating a balanced life by working on your sense of connectedness, your sensuality, your intuition, confidence, compassion, communicating well, and gaining wisdom even without specifically believing in doing chakra work. So, every one of us, no matter who we are or what we believe, can harness the power of our chakras!
